FrontierVille Cheats & Tips: How to Get Married

FrontierVille Letter From Spouse: hard work
One of the coolest and most novel features in FrontierVille is that you can get married and have kids. This isn't something you start off with immediately though. The game sets 5 major "goals" that cover at least a dozen different achievements -- everything from planting crops, buying animals, building a store, to collecting items for assembling wedding clothes.

All this, you must do alone, but you'll have the occasional letter to keep you company as you build a home for two. When your spouse arrives, you'll get to choose his or her gender and appearance, and yes, this means s/he can even be the same sex! Once your spouse is settled down, s/he becomes a second player, whom you can click on to help achieve more goals together. (TIP: Contrary to an early report, the spouse won't have his or her own energy meter, but will share yours. In terms of benefits, there are certain goals which are spouse-only. Plus, toggling between your spouse and yourself helps you reach more of the homestead, which can create higher, unbroken work combos.)

We've outlined all those achievements for you in one go. Read on to see what tasks need to be performed, what items you'll need, and the kinds of rewards you can expect.

Party's over! FarmVille Tuscan Wedding ends on June 29

Look like the party's over for the big Tuscan wedding that you've been hosting on your farm. Zynga says that this FarmVille event will come to a close on June 29, so you better beg and plead with friends to send you eggs, goats milk, olives and truffles so you can trade them in for favors, which can, in turn, be redeemed for a Leaning Tower or a Bella Fountain. I'm personally going trade in my favors for a flock of Spaghetti Sheep -- they're so absolutely adorable.

FarmVille: Tonight's update promises to "make your farms run smoother"

We're not sure what tonight's FarmVille update will entail, except for one thing -- performance enhancements -- which the game needs desperately. The past few days, the game's been running more ragged than ever, so I hope this means that everything will run like buttah the rest of this week. Or at least more like buttah than it has been. Keep your fingers crossed.

Mafia Wars Global Cup event ends tomorrow

If you haven't finished the Mafia Wars Global Cup collection yet -- it's do or die time. While the World Cup continues, this limited edition event will only be around for another day. Yup, this time tomorrow night, your chance at scoring some balls will be gone forever. I'm taking about soccer balls, of course.

Just in case you need a refresher, the point of the Global Cup event is to complete the Global Cup Collection, which is made up of seven soccer balls, each bearing the colors of a different country. You can locate the balls by performing the special Global Cup jobs (three in all, each take different amounts of time to complete), regular jobs, fighting and one as a free gift from friends.

See the image below to learn what you need to do to get each ball. Once you complete the collection, you will be rewarded with a weapon called 'Injury Time' with 38 Attack and 52 Defense. Those defense stats aren't so bad, so it would behoove you to -- as they say -- get on the ball.

FarmVille Blue & Red Mystery Box: Find out what's inside *Spoilers*

FarmVille released a brand new blue & red limited edition Mystery Box in the Market this evening (June 22), which is available for 16 Farm Cash for the next 7 days. Want to get an idea of what's inside before you spend a wad of virtual cash? Of course you do! See the full list below:

SPOILER ALERT!
* Outdoor Kitchen 300 XP
* Farm Goose 150 XP
* Mini Amphitheater 300 XP
* White Spotted Owl 225 XP
* Outdoor Bar 300Xp
* Garden Pavilion ??

The Amphitheater seems really huge, so you'll most likely have to clear some room to put this massive building on your farm. Though, it's pretty funny how there's two ducks performing onstage. Seems like the White Spotted Owl is the big winner from this go-round (it totally reminds me of Hedwig from Harry Potter) and maybe the Garden Pavilion (it's cute and doesn't take up too much space).

What do you think -- is this new mystery box worth the Farm Cash?

Green Giant's Farmville cash promotion a success

When Zynga partnered up with real-world produce maker Green Giant to give away Farmville cash, no one was really sure if virtual items would really drive real-world product sales. Well, any doubts have been removed now that the program seems set to finish as a bona fide success.

Mashable reports that over 100,000 in Farm Cash was given away as part of the six week pilot program, which started in select Target stores but soon expanded to over 4,000 stores nationwide. It was virtual money well spent, according to Green Giant. "It's really helped us put Green Giant Fresh back in front of the consumers in the social media world," Green Giant Fresh Michalin Modena told The Packer. "It's been a great opportunity to modernize our communication channels to consumers."

The free Farmville cash codes will appear on 25 different Green Giant Fresh produce products through Aug. 1, though they can be redeemed until the middle of September. Wait, Aug. 1? That's only a few days away! Excuse me, I have to make a quick trip to the store...

Cisco security report mentions nebulous social gaming threat

The dirty little secret of the social gaming industry that a large portion of players use these games to goof off when they should be working. Now, a new security report is warning companies that lost productivity could be the least of the problems caused by the games -- that they could be a bona fide security risk to corporate IT infrastructure. All that's missing is the "how."

To be fair, page 11 of Cisco's 2010 Midyear Security Report mainly focuses on the huge time sink Facebook games represent for otherwise productive workers (see image). But the report also tries to sell the games as some sort of ill-defined security risk to company computers. "It's safe to assume that online criminals are developing ways to deliver malware via popular applications," the report states. "Heavy users love to search the web for cheats and tricks for better play, so they may fall victim to malware-laden links or spam messages offering such shortcuts."

While we've seen isolated cases of malware popping up in game ads and fake "strategy guide" scams, Cisco's case seems a bit overblown to us. Just because it's "safe to assume" hackers are targeting Facebook games doesn't mean that companies' critical servers are under imminent threat from Farmville-playing employees. In fact, if any such malware were to show up as part of the most popular Facebook games, it would likely be quickly discovered, reported and (hopefully) neutralized by the game-maker before it could spread too far.

To its credit, the Cisco report does say that simply banning all employee access to social networks is an overly severe solution to this problem. "Businesses must balance the need to provide access to collaboration tools with the need to manage enterprise security," the report states. Amen to that.
