FrontierVille Cheats & Tips: How to Get Married

FrontierVille Letter From Spouse: hard work
One of the coolest and most novel features in FrontierVille is that you can get married and have kids. This isn't something you start off with immediately though. The game sets 5 major "goals" that cover at least a dozen different achievements -- everything from planting crops, buying animals, building a store, to collecting items for assembling wedding clothes.

All this, you must do alone, but you'll have the occasional letter to keep you company as you build a home for two. When your spouse arrives, you'll get to choose his or her gender and appearance, and yes, this means s/he can even be the same sex! Once your spouse is settled down, s/he becomes a second player, whom you can click on to help achieve more goals together. (TIP: Contrary to an early report, the spouse won't have his or her own energy meter, but will share yours. In terms of benefits, there are certain goals which are spouse-only. Plus, toggling between your spouse and yourself helps you reach more of the homestead, which can create higher, unbroken work combos.)

We've outlined all those achievements for you in one go. Read on to see what tasks need to be performed, what items you'll need, and the kinds of rewards you can expect.

Ravenwood Fair Cheats & Tips: Learn how to earn coins fast

Ravenwood Fair is a hot new game from LOLapps that combines the gameplay from FrontierVille with a new and exciting carnival theme. In this game, the goal is to create your own fair and attract guests, all while keeping your guests safe from the scary critters that live in the forest surrounding you. In order to buy new games and decorations for your fair, you need coins. Here is the essential guide that will teach you how to earn coins in Ravenwood Fair.

Build Games

Building games is not only one of the main objectives of Ravenwood Fair, it actually has a huge coin benefit to you as well. The more games you have, the more visitors will come to your fair. Visitors spend money playing your games, so you can collect coins from them while they are playing. Clearly, it is a good idea to have as many games as you can afford in your fair. Building games does require you to spend coins though, so it might not be the most cost effective way to earn them.

Chop Down Trees

Chopping down trees is an effective way to earn coins, because each time you chop a tree you earn a little bit of coins. The amount ranges from 1-20 per chop, so it can definitely add up to be a substantial amount of dough. You can only chop as long as you have energy though, so this option doesn't work for just anyone.

Complete Quests

Doing quests is one of the best ways to earn coins in the game. Quest objectives vary from killing Domovois to collecting materials and building games, so there is generally one quest available that you can do without having coins. When you complete a quest, you can earn thousands of coins, not to mention XP and energy as an added bonus.

Comfort Visitors

Every time one of your visitors is scared of something in the woods, you can click on them to comfort them. Comforting a visitor gives you 10 coins each time you do it. You can also visit your neighbors and comfort the visitors in their fair.

Collect from Feed

When your friends level up, use special powers, and complete quests, they are prompted to share coins with you on their wall. If you click on these feed posts, you can get coins just for doing that. Don't forget to check your Games dashboard to view all the feed posts from a particular game and scan quickly for coin bonuses. This is only about 10 coins per post, but it can definitely add up if you have a lot of friends who play Ravenwood Fair.

Visit Neighbors

Having neighbors is helpful because the first time you visit their fair each day you get a big coin, energy, and XP bonus. Having a lot of neighbors is definitely a good thing for your fair!

FrontierVille Playtime! Timed Mission: Everything you need to know

If you're not too bogged down in Winter missions in FrontierVille, you'll want to take a few seconds to complete the new Timed Mission that was released today in the game. This newest mission is called simply "Playtime!" and it will reward you with a handful of new goodies if you can complete it within two days of accepting it.

The Playtime! Mission will have you building playground equipment for your children, and must be accepted before December 31, but after reading this set of requirements, we doubt that you'll want to wait that long to jump in and (probably easily) finish the quests. Playtime! can be completed after finishing three parts:

Have or Craft 20 Planks
Get Ten Bags of Playground Sand
Collect Ten Scrap Metal Pieces

First and foremost, the Planks can be crafted inside of the wagon. Many high level players will likely already have these 20 Planks as extras on-hand, but if you don't, you can create a single Plank for 7 pieces of Wood and 250 coins.

As for the Playground Sand and Scrap Metal Pieces, you'll need to ask friends to earn these items. The Playground Sand is earned through individual gift requests via friends, as clicking on the "Ask Friends" button takes you to a reverse of the game's free gifts page, where you can send an individual request to all of the friends that you think would help.

Finally, the Scrap Metal pieces are earned through a generic wall post, that can be claimed by a limited number of people before running out, and requiring that you have to ask again. These are the more difficult of the two items to earn, as there is a possibility that your friends could ignore the request entirely or simply overlook it. With two days to complete the entire mission, you'll want to keep a sharp eye on how many Scrap Metal pieces you have at any one time, and always request for more if the game allows you.

The rewards for finishing the Playtime! quest are a Monkey Bars decoration, 1 Dinner energy item, and 500 XP. Considering the ease with which most players will finish this mission, the 500 XP seems like more than enough to make the quest worthwhile. Furthermore, you can sell the Monkey Bars for 600 coins, if you don't want them, or already have a set, so that should help pay you back for a few of the Planks that you may or may not have had to create to finish the mission.

Zynga's CityVille could overthrow FarmVille tomorrow, reporter claims

CityVile won't stop growing
Remember when we mentioned that CityVille was dangerously close to beating FarmVille as the top Zynga Facebook game? Well, it could happen as early as tomorrow, according to a speculative report by Social Times. If true, this could drastically change the playing field, with FarmVille living in the shadow of a far more current social game with enhanced visuals and more streamlined progression.

Social Times cites AllFacebook's recent findings that CityVille is, as of this writing, sitting at 54.7 million monthly players while FarmVille waits for what seems to be inevitable at 56.6 million. With Zynga's other games below second place trailing behind by as much as 20 and 30 million fewer players (Zynga Poker, FrontierVille and Mafia Wars, respectively), CityVille could be number one for a long time. We'll see if Zynga, and the CityVille team especially, get their early Christmas gift tomorrow.

Woof! Zynga teases FrontierVille Dog House feature

Unfortunately, we doubt this dog will be much of a drinker. Zynga posted this message today on its FrontierVille Facebook page: "Woof! Looks like a new friend is moving in. Stay tuned." Well, I guess the cat--er, dog is out of the bag. (They've never been too great in the hint department.) It's unknown when this feature will be released nor do we know how a dog will fit into the grand scheme of things on the homestead.

But we do know that it will more than likely be awesome. How could it not? It fills the void every new set of parents feel: The need to care for a creature that doesn't talk back. Though, house training isn't exactly fun the second, third or fourth time around. Things are about to get hairy on the homestead, so stay tuned.

What do you think this new addition to your family will be like? Are you excited for yet another family member?

Quote of the Moment: '[Xbox Live's] too small a demographic' for Zynga

Brian Reynolds of Zynga

"[Xbox Live's] too small a demographic. Think about, of my friends, how many of them own an Xbox 360? Well, I'm a game developer and I even come from a triple-A space so we might even be in the double digits... Twenty or maybe even thirty percent of my friends might have an Xbox 360, but effectively 100 percent of them have Facebook and effectively 100 percent of them have a mobile phone. Of them, probably 90 percent have a smartphone."

Brian Reynolds, chief game designer at Zynga, said this to Industrygamers.com in a recent interview. He's referring to what might be the next move for the omnipotent social game developer. While all signs point to mobile, it's not silly to assume that Microsoft's Xbox Live could be next with its over 30 million players. As it turns out, 30 million just doesn't stack up to Facebook's over 500 million, that of which half is said to play social games. A game like CityVille on Xbox would grab probably over a few million players, but that's small potatoes compared to the 90 million that already play on Facebook. Reynolds continued, explaining that mobile is next, because while plenty of his friends have Xbox 360s, the average social gamer doesn't have as many friends with the console. On the other hand, Reynolds said that at least 90 percent of his friends likely have a smartphone. You do the math. (Sorry, Microsoft.)

What do you think of Zynga's dismissal of Xbox 360? Is the company making a mistake in leaving it out or is the company right on track?

FrontierVille Canning Master Missions arrive, players predictably displeased

We brought you a sneak peek of FrontierVille's new set of Canning Master Missions back on April Fools' Day, and while the arguably ridiculous Food requirements (the missions will take a total of 170,000 Food from your account) might have seemed like a clever prank to celebrate the day, they are actually anything but, as they have started rolling out to users as any other set of missions would.

The high Food requirements haven't been lost on players, who immediately took to the game's official forums, already spawning a 26 page thread of users (and growing) that are mostly disappointed in the fact that these missions consume so much of your Food. While there are the heavy-hitting players that look at these missions as a challenge, most are like user "grobanite33," who says the following:

"I would perfectly fine with this if the food weren't going to be consumed. I've been playing since the beginning, seldom buy meals, and still only have about 45,000 food. I can't imagine losing all that and having to build it up from scratch for quest after quest."

Of course, these missions are entirely voluntary, and if you never choose to complete them, you'll never lose that much Food. Still, some users simply hate having an option mission on their account, and are taking even greater offense to their existence - so much so that Zynga has had to purge the thread of many, more than hateful comments.

Ultimately, we can see why Zynga released these missions (not that it necessarily makes it right, mind you). Users such as myself, who collect their free Daily Bonus email offering a free meal, those who collect all of the bonuses they can posted by friends, and those who only spend energy when it's really necessary can easily have 50-60k of Food sitting around in reserves. This has likely caused an "imbalance" in Zynga's eyes, and they want to literally force users down into a more manageable Food level.

Sure, there are those that claim that this is all part of a sinister plan on the part of Zynga to force users to pay Horseshoes for Energy since they won't have Food on hand to buy meals, but while we can't really prove that theory wrong, we'd hope it doesn't come down to something so evil.

Whether you take these missions as a challenge, or as a slap in the face to all of the hard work you've had building up your Food supplies, we want to know about it. Will you complete these missions, or will you ignore them entirely, in favor of keeping your Food for other tasks?

FrontierVille Tips & Tricks: How NOT to complete the Canning Master Goals

Did you take one look at the Canning Master goals in FrontierVille, which (when all is said and done) require you to give away 170,000 Food and scoff at the requirements? Are you okay with leaving a mission set uncompleted on your land, just so you can keep your Food? Do you fear that you might accidentally complete these goals without really trying, only to suddenly lose all of your hard-earned Food?

If you answered yes to any of those questions (don't worry - you're not alone), we're here with a couple of tips that will allow you to stay as far away from the Canning Master goals as humanly possible, keeping all of your Food nice and safe in your game. The above image shows you a screenshot of what the first goal in the Canning Master series looks like. If you're like many farmers, you'll likely see the same two requirements (Butter and Food) automatically completed for you, due to your reserves. The easiest way to not complete this mission (and save the 5,000 Food, and beyond), then, is to simply never plant Tomatoes... ever again.

Of course, this isn't very reasonable, as we'll surely be given another goal at some point in the future that has us harvesting Tomatoes (that is, a goal that we don't mind completing), so meet us behind the break for other ways to save your Food.

The key to success here ultimately lies with the Butter. Even if you have the maximum allowed 99 Butter on your account, you can easily get rid of them by either simply turning into the collection (rewarding you with 25 more Food each time), or by sending the excess Butter to friends. As you can see from my picture, I'll only be able to turn in the collection nine times, due to my limited supply of Swiss Cheese, and I'll need to give the rest away.

This is done by opening up the Collections menu, and then scrolling to the Cow Collection. See the red and yellow gift box? Simply click on that button, and you'll be able to send your full supply of Butters to your friends, or even split them between multiple friends.

While you can send them to anyone, your best bet is to send them to players that are no longer playing the game, as you won't accidentally complete this mission for someone else who has also thrown away all of their Butters as well!

As Butter is a collection item, it's nigh impossible that you'll never have another Butter randomly spawn on your account, nor is it impossible that Zynga releases another quest requiring Butters to complete. The situation then becomes a bit more complicated, but still manageable. For the time being, every time you see a Butter appear, simply follow the same procedure - giving it to a friend that you know won't mind receiving it. If another Butter-requiring mission shows up, that requires three or more Butters, your best bet would likely be to earn up two Butters as normal, and pay the lessened Horseshoe requirement to complete just that task, without completing the Canning Master goal.

Yes, the latter situation will eventually (presumably) force you into paying some Horseshoes, but isn't losing a few Horseshoes in a single transaction worth keeping 170,000 Food, which would take you weeks or even months to earn back if you completed the Canning Master goals as normal?

These steps are of course entirely voluntary, and if you'd like to take on the challenge of the Canning Master goals, you're more than welcome to do so. For those users like myself, however, that feel that keeping our Food is worth having a forever-outstanding goal series on our accounts, these are a few tricks and tips to keep in mind that will help you do just that.

What do you think of the Canning Master goals? Will you follow these tips to save your Food, or will you hurry and complete the goals as fast as you can just to have them out of the way?

FrontierVille Water Well Goals: Everything you need to know

This weekend, Zynga has launched the Water Well in FrontierVille. Along with an actual "building" (the Well) that you can place on your Homestead, and then use to collect crop and animal boosts, along with two new and rare critters (the Blue Frog and the Yellow Turtle), you'll also be able to complete a series of three goals associated with the Well. Remember, as these quests are incredibly new, they are subject to change at any time.

The first goal is called "May as well find a Spring!" and it asks you to complete three tasks:

Clear 20 Grass
Discover a Wellspring
Begin Building a Well

As we've told you before, the Wellspring can be found randomly while clearing debris. Simply whacking that wellspring (as though it were the base of a building frame) will allow you to "begin" the building of the actual well. Finishing this first quest rewards you with 100 XP, five Peanut Ready Boosts, and two Well Pulleys, which are used in the actual construction of the final Water Well. The second goal in this series asks you to harvest some crops, and help out on friends' Homesteads, along with collecting another item used in the construction of the Well (while you can ignore the Well altogether once you find the Wellspring, this proves that Zynga really wants you to go through with building it).

Harvest 10 Flax
Unwither Neighbors' Crops 15 Times
Collect 5 Dowsing Rods

For this mission, it looks like the Dowsing Rods will be collected via a general wall post asking your friends to give them to you, rather than individual gift requests. Finishing this mission gives you 150 XP and two Corn Ready Boosts.

Finally, for mission three, you'll need to complete the construction of your first Well, and move immediately into working on the second.

Complete the Well
Remove Two Stumps (on your own Homestead)
Find a second Wellspring

For a full look at completing the Well's construction, make sure to check out our guide. For finishing this final of the three missions, you'll receive 250 XP, five Unwither Crop Boosts, and a Bucket O' Duckies, a new decoration that's just overflowing with tiny rubber duckies (and is so cute!).

Remember, by completing your Well(s), you'll have a chance to collect crop and animal boosts, and maybe even a rare critter from the Well a full 10 times before it dries up and you'll need to move onto the next. These missions don't seem too terribly complicated either, so even if you only went into this looking to snag a couple of exclusive critters, you wouldn't really lose anything, other than time.

Check out the rest of our FrontierVille Cheats & Tips right here.

What do you think of the Water Well goal? Are they too difficult,

FrontierVille: Clear debris to find shy Spring Ferret critter

Yet another new "injured" (or in this case "shy") critter has appeared in FrontierVille, with this newest animal being the Spring Ferret. You'll find a Spring Ferret's burrow by clearing debris on your Homestead, and once you do, you'll need to make the decision of either helping the animal of abandoning it.

Should you choose to help it (and why wouldn't you, at least to say you've helped one), you'll need to collect Juicy Berries to lure the ferret out of the underground burrow. From out experience, it takes seven Juicy Berries to lure a single ferret out and onto your Homestead, where you can keep her as a new pet, along with your Spring Bears, Spring Quails and the like. The ferret itself is a tiny brown animal, as you can see by the picture at right, so at least helping one doesn't seem like such a big burden, for the little amount of space she takes up; plus, she's just so darn cute!

Have you found a Spring Ferret on your land yet? What do you think of this newest addition to the game's "critter family?"

FrontierVille Pioneer Trail Sneak Peek: Avalanche Pass is a dangerous shortcut

When trying to make your way through FrontierVille's upcoming Pioneer Trail expansion, you'll apparently have the option of taking a shortcut through a section of the map known as Avalanche Pass. If the name doesn't make it clear enough, this cold, snow-covered environment poses a real threat, as avalanches will apparently trap players, requiring them to dig themselves out before they can get going again.

Of course, our prediction (as usual), is based off of a cryptic hint from Zynga: "Folks on the Pioneer Trail say you can save time by takin' a shortcut through the mountains. When you head on out soon you better get through the Avalanche Pass 'fore the blizzards blow in! Otherwise, bring a snow shovel... or ten!"

The most obvious explanation for this would be that we'd need to ask friends to help dig us out, either by forming a rescue team or simply sending us shovels, but we'll hold out a bit of hope that it's something more complex than that. Either way, it's interesting to see this full scope of seasons and natural environments being represented in Pioneer Trail (from the lush Beaver Valley to the arid High Plains), as it will help for more gameplay variety (which I have a sinking feeling might be needed). We'll make sure to bring you more details about this upcoming expansion as we know more, so keep checking back.

What do you think of Avalanche Pass? Do you think it will be mandatory for users to become stuck in an avalanche, or will it be an entirely random gameplay outcome based on your other decisions on the trail?

Pioneer Trail: Make your way into Avalanche Pass starting today

While we've had the ability to prepare for the Avalanche Pass missions in FrontierVille's Pioneer Trail for about a week now, speedy pioneers weren't actually able to access the third area of the trail... until today. If you were stuck at the end of the High Plains, waiting patiently (or not) for the Avalanche Pass to open, your time is now.

You'll start your journey in the Avalanche Pass by having your Covered Wagon literally covered in snow via an Avalanche. You'll still be able to interact with the wagon though, it seems, as the folks at Zynga have made a special point of letting us know that we can look towards the far right side of the Avalanche Pass map to find it.

Remember, you'll need to eventually blast your way through the Avalanche Pass with dynamite, so this isn't any time to slow down. There are plenty of missions and activities for you to complete in this newest section of the trail, so start soon in order to make it to Fort Courage as soon as possible!

Were you stuck waiting for Avalanche Pass to open in the Pioneer Trail, or are you still trying to make your way through Beaver Valley or the High Plains? What do you think of the Avalanche Pass so far?
